More than one tonne of a chemical used to make the drug P was stolen on Saturday night in Mt Maunganui, police said.
The chemical, hypophospherous acid, was toxic and flammable, and could be extremely dangerous if not handled properly, Detective Sergeant Darryl Brazier said.
The chemical was stolen from a chemical storage and manufacturing business on Totara St and was in large containers.
