KEY POINTS:
A pair of thieves who stole a woman's purse in Matamata have been linked to a series of thefts against the elderly across the Waikato.
Last week police warned the pair, described as a well dressed caucasian couple who spoke english with an accent, may strike again.
The pair had let a 76-year-old woman ahead of them at an ATM, observed her PIN number, and then stalked her through Matamata before stealing her purse.
The woman's ATM card was then used twice by the pair in Matamata to withdrawal cash, once in Te Aroha and unsuccessfully used in Paeroa the same day.
Constable Bruce Warrender said that theft happened on 16 October.
"We believe this theft to be linked to another in Cambridge on 5 October, another in Thames on the 18th and a second in Cambridge on the 23rd.
"The couple, who were overheard speaking in a foreign language by their Matamata victim, are targeting elderly women in their late 70s to early 80s."
Anyone with information on the pair is asked to contact Mr Warrender at Matamata Police station on 07 8887117.
