Wool has many uses - including brightening up vegetation in central Masterton.
Masterton District Council hosted a "yarn bombing" event yesterday afternoon, inviting council workers and members of the public to decorate trees in the town square to help promote Golden Shears 2015. The council provided the colourful wool, with participants either learning to finger-knit pompoms to hang from the branches, or wrapping wool around the trunk. Pompoms were also donated by aspiring knitters at Wairarapa SPCA Children's Day event.
Council event co-ordinator Trish Keogh said Masterton schools got into the spirit, yarn bombing their playgrounds to compete for a cash prize. Pupils also entered a colouring competition. Winning entries will be displayed at the Golden Shears competition.
