New Zealand First leader Winston Peters could not resist reminding his supporters of the links between National and the Winebox tax inquiry yesterday, six years after merchant bank Fay Richwhite was caught secretly filming his evidence.
The bank was fined $15,000 for contempt. Commissioner Sir Ronald Davison severely criticised Fay Richwhite's director of communications, Michelle Boag - who is now National party president - for her role in arranging the filming.
It was six years ago yesterday that the row erupted and Mr Peters highlighted the anniversary when addressing a crowd of 300 at his final Auckland rally before Saturday's election. He questioned how Ms Boag could rise to become party president.
A Herald-DigiPoll published on July 4 found almost one in four National voters less likely to support the party because of her.
