If you think some of your classes are behind the times then take a look at studying technology. The New Zealand technology curriculum is so fresh that Finland, Chile, Hong Kong and parts of the USA are following our lead.
The Ministry of Education has been developing a technology curriculum for schools since 1993. As a compulsory subject since 1999, it has innovation and creativity as a prime focus.
Department of Education senior policy analyst Steve Benson is really enthusiastic about the curriculum as it, "engages kids in real problem solving" and "is the subject that connects most strongly to the knowledge wave"
As a practical subject technology takes in a wide range of fields. Students work on projects in biotechnology, electronics, food technology, materials technology, information and communication technology and on manufacturing products and structures.
The technology curriculum is often integrated in primary and junior secondary schools as part of the overall curriculum and taught as a separate subject in senior secondary school.
