The stars come out to play

About 250,000 Aucklanders got into the Christmas mood last night as the biggest event on the city's Yuletide calendar brought out the crowds.

The weather even got into the spirit as forecast thunderstorms gave way to a balmy summer's evening.

Last night's lineup was a who's who of the entertainment industry with stars like NZ Idol judges Frankie Stevens and Jackie Clarke appearing. Also on stage were Greg Johnson, Shane Cortese, Amber Claire, Carolyn Taylor, 11-year-old Ben Kara and hip-hop group Fast Crew.

And, of course, there was fireworks and the crowd favourite - Santa.
