Lawrence said there were plenty of smiles on faces, with sunny and clear conditions.
"We thought we'd only open Curvey Basin Trail and the Learners but Alta has opened as well.
"We had a light dusting of snow overnight, and [we've] been snowmaking for 24 hours prior to opening. We will be again tonight."
First on the ski lift this morning was Queenstown locals the Gaboda family, who were up at The Remarkables at 11:30pm on Friday and slept in their car in their gear.
This is the third year they were first on the lift.

They were joined by Queenstown brothers Jesse and Kahn Johnston and friend Jenny Parkes.

The weather forecast shows Sunday should be settled and fine, with a front coming in on late on Monday, Tuesday and into Wednesday.
The Remarkables ski field said this would mean it should get another 10-20 cm of natural snow, but they'd continue to top up with snow making.
