The Pines

The house is situated in the area within the Matarangi Beach development known as The Pines and the site, which is gently undulating and substantially covered with mature pine trees, extends from the road to the edge of the beach reserve.

The brief called for a two-level house that had clean, simple lines and would be constructed as close as possible to the beach reserve. It also required the living space to be located on the upper level to maximise views across the public reserve to the beach beyond.

The plan for the house utilises the idea of a board walk to define the entry and circulation space and separate the two main zones of the house.

One zone contains the guest bed and bathroom facilities, with master bedroom and ensuite above. The other zone contains the children's bedroom and recreation space below, with the open plan kitchen living space above.

A large deck offers extensive outdoor living along the full beach frontage of the kitchen/ living space and there is also a smaller deck on the south side.

The private rear courtyard extends from the master bedroom and TV lounge for an indoor-outdoor flow which makes it perfect for entertaining.
