Sixties shapes, arty prints and iridescent fabrics may abound, but the easiest trend of the new spring season? A loose sweater and full, voluminous skirt. A high-low styling trick spotted in collections from several local designers - from Kate Sylvester's grey sweatshirt and leatherette skirt to Karen Walker's blue knit sweater and full skirt ensemble - it's a youthful, modern silhouette that features heavily in street-style photos, trickling up into designer collections.
Juliette Hogan offers one of the more dramatic takes on the relaxed look, with her gorgeous raw silk skirt (available in midi and full-lengths) teamed with a posh grey marle sweater.
"I'm loving putting a sporty take on my dressier pieces," explains Hogan. "Mixing the high and low is how I've liked to outfit for myself and I think it's really appropriate for New Zealand - a lot of people prefer to look understated, not overdone or over-dressed. I like to see my pieces worn rather than purchasing something to wear for special occasions only, and a lot of my dressier pieces are designed to wear back with trainers or a plain T-shirt."
