Sunshine awaits most of New Zealand tomorrow.

It's welcome news for holidaymakers this long weekend after rain and windy conditions hit parts of Auckland, the Bay of Plenty, Hawkes Bay, Waikato, the West Coast and Southland today.

Wellington, the Horowhenua and parts of Taranaki were being bathed in sunshine. A mid-afternoon high of 19C was recorded in Taumarunui, while Gisborne had the national low of 12.1C

WeatherWatch analyst Philip Duncan said most of the North Island would enjoy sunshine over the next two days, with temperatures set to be in the mid-to-late teens tomorrow, before reaching the early 20s on Monday.

Sunshine is also being forecast for much of the South Island.

Auckland would also enjoy some much-needed holiday sunshine around some occasional showers.

Meanwhile, the Labour Weekend holiday road toll stood at one on Saturday afternoon.

A 21-year-old Puketutu man died after his motorcyle crashed at the Hutchinson Road and Morrinsville-Walton Road intersection on Saturday morning.

There were no other vehicles involved in the incident.

Three people were killed on the roads during Labour Weekend last year.

Police today also advised motorists in the Auckland region to drive with care as wet weather, and heavy holiday traffic, resulted in a number of crashes.

Traffic has been particularly heavy in and around Ellerslie and Greenland all day as people flock to the Armageddon entertainment expo at the ASB Showgrounds.

Motorway traffic was also delayed after a man died after falling from the Hopetoun Bridge onto the Nelson St motorway off-ramp on Saturday afternoon.

Motorists in the East Coast were also urged to drive with caution after a slip on SH35, near Mareanui Pa Rd.
