Auckland is hungry for its favourite culinary event. It is thirsting for that heady mix, and the good news is The Food Show is back at the Auckland Showgrounds from August 5-7.
Today, New Zealand cuisine draws predominantly from European, Asian and Polynesian cultures. Our abundantly nurturing environment provides the best of produce. Succulent lamb, beef, pork and venison, an array of fresh seafood, and crisp fruits and vegetables all go a long way to enhancing the cooking expertise we have here.
Unveiling a range of gastronomic experiences, The Food Show 2005 is set to move New Zealand to a more prominent position on the cuisine circuit. For those who travel in culinary pursuits it is a must on the itinerary, and for those who dread to tread the path to the kitchen, the show will certainly make them comfortable enough to view food and cooking as an enjoyable experience.
Since its inception in 2000, the food show has evolved in concept and sheer numbers. Originally conceived as an intimate gourmet food and wine show by Dona White of North Port Events, it soon moved on to become a major consumer event that also has a loyal trade following. The show attracts more than 26,000 visitors and over 300 exhibitors each year.
White has considerable experience in the hospitality industry and carries a wealth of insight into the New Zealand food and beverage consumer psyche.
She attributes the huge success of the show to the sophisticated appetite New Zealand has developed. The demand for ingredients has prompted local manufacturers to cater for variety, while imports thrive as well.
Today exotic food is a fashion statement for some, a lifestyle for others, and a basic necessity for the die-hard foodie.
"More men are also entering into the kitchen these days and the climate is just perfect for experimenting and indulging in all things culinary,'' White says.
The fact also remains that it is the only event in New Zealand that puts together so many exhibitors of food, beverages and cooking products under one umbrella. "Buyers from all over the world pop into The Food Show and our exhibitors report amazing trade contacts,'' White says.
The Food Show is a win-win situation for consumers, exhibitors and retailers. As well as featuring the best of brands in food and beverages and a generous dash of cooking equipment, more than 20 product launches are held every year as companies find a fertile consumer psyche thirsting for new experiences.
Consumers can sample products and are offered attractive specials, in addition to the many samples and giveaways offered. For the retailer, the increased exposure of products that will be, or are already, on the shelves leads to increased sales and, ultimately, new customers.
Targeted to reach more than 30,000 food enthusiasts, this much-anticipated yearly event is set to kick-start your culinary senses.
