KEY POINTS:
Japanese motorshows shows are nothing without corny themes. For the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, Honda says its displays are "For the endless joy of mobility on earth".
Japanese motor shows are also nothing without some really cool cars. Honda has those, too: headlining its stand is the CR-Z, a futuristic lightweight sports car that aims to combine driving fun with fuel efficiency.
CR-Z stands for Compact Renaissance Zero: the idea of a renaissance in the design of compact cars that begins anew from some fundamental principles.
Technical details are yet to be released, but advanced construction techniques have been used to keep the CR-Z's kerb weight down to an absolute minimum.
That minimalist principle is echoed in the car's styling detail: tube-like lights, an oversized grille opening, and (on the inside) mesh material on simple framework.
Also on display from Honda is the PUYO, a boxy fuel-cell vehicle, a model of the i-DTEC next-generation diesel engine, and the all-new Jazz hatchback, which is about to go on sale in Japan.
