Daisy Aitken and Israel Dagg were married yesterday in Hawkes Bay.

Selection of All Blacks support teammate at his wedding to Daisy Aitken.

All Black star Israel Dagg tied the knot yesterday with fiancee Daisy Aitken at the late Paul Holmes' Mana Lodge.

The bride and groom had sold exclusive rights to the Hawkes Bay wedding to a women's magazine for an undisclosed sum.

Sports agent-to-the-stars Dean Hegan, from Essentially Group, confirmed a commercial deal was in place and nuptial details were confidential.

Holmes' widow, Lady Deborah Holmes, was reluctant to divulge if the wedding was taking place at the luxurious country estate she shared with the broadcaster.

Victor Vito and his pregnant wife Amber, who runs a culinary webpage with the bride called The Rugby Pantry, were expected to attend the wedding.

Aaron Smith, Cory Jane and Dagg's Crusaders teammate Dan Carter were expected to attend, rugby sources said.

All Black forwards Kieran Read, Sam Whitelock, Jeremy Thrush, Wyatt Crockett and Sam Cane chartered a fishing boat for the weekend and went up north with Matt Watson, host of The Fishing Show, in search of kingfish, pals said.

Dagg and Aitken became engaged a year ago after a nine-year courtship. They met during their secondary school years

NZ on Air announce their final 2014 funding decision next week for the coveted Platinum Fund, which has a mere $15 million in contestable funding for programming.

Hillary, a six-hour TV drama series for TV One about the life of Sir Ed, has already received $6.4 million.

Damian Lewis was tipped to play Sir Edmund Hillary

British actor Damian Lewis (Homeland) was in talks to play Hillary in the biopic, but was unavailable.

If our weekend political programmes fail to return - and we trust that won't be the case - we hope, at least, a TV show about a man who reached the world's tallest peak first, and became a Kiwi icon, will at least win ratings.

Garden nuptials for Mallard and Clifton

Trevor Mallard and Jane Clifton

The upcoming wedding between Labour party bad boy Trevor Mallard and Listener columnist Jane Clifton will take place on December 29 in the garden of the MP's Wainuiomata residence - with Labour luvvies and a former Tory deputy PM in attendance.

Sir Don McKinnon, a longtime friend of Clifton, will walk the bride down the aisle, NewstalkZB commentator Barry Soper told The Diary.

Soper has been asked to make a wedding speech. "Jane rang and said, 'I have another speaking engagement for you'.

I have spoken at Jane's 20th, 30th, 40th and 50th birthday, and now her wedding. I'm absolutely chuffed," Soper said.

The wedding ceremony will be an intimate affair for close friends and family at 2pm.

A bus will ferry more guests in at 4pm for a late-night party, which will include Grant Robertson and Sir Bob Jones.

The wedding is a first for Clifton. Mallard, a father of three, separated from his wife Stephanie in 2007 after 33 years of marriage.

Gemma now in thick with Brand McCaw

Richie McCaw and girlfriend Gemma Flynn

The glittering Rugby Awards this week were especially notable - it was the first time All Black captain Richie McCaw has taken a significant other.

McCaw and girlfriend Gemma Flynn, who has left the Black Sticks to complete her degree, attended the prestigious sporting event as a couple. They happily posed on the red carpet together for waiting snappers.

Friends say it's the first time the skipper has brought an official guest, and Team McCaw are now taking Flynn into consideration too.

Brand McCaw is a business. His romantic image is now a big part of that. It's no coincidence Flynn has been allowed to release loved-up images of the pair on social media. McCaw has been notoriously shy about discussing his private life in the past, where there's been no shortage of sporty blondes.

But things have gotten serious with Flynn. She's moved in to his Christchurch pad, and gal pals reckon wedding bells are on the cards. His agent, Dean Hegan, said they are not engaged.

"They have definitely become more serious, and Richie wants his media reps to look after them both," said an insider.

"It's a bit like Wills and Kate when they made their first official public outings together. Wills' team were tasked with managing Kate too."

Flynn, wearing a patterned, halterneck dress that some may have thought a tad too beachy for the formal occasion, was not the only rugby WAG at the awards.

Caroline McNaught, partner of Malakai Fekitoa, looked stunning in a sexy plunging LBD with nude heels and a gold body necklace.

Bridget Read, wife of Kieran, looked elegant in a black and white day dress and black high heels.

And Oakley Salton, James Lash's better half, looked pretty in a two-toned, blush pleated chiffon dress and chignon.

Just asking...

Which Mr Primetime TV, a known steroid user, is being refused shoulder reconstruction surgery by which prominent Auckland doctor because he won't stop taking anabolic drugs?
