The three women who were used by Immigration New Zealand as witnesses in a failed High Court trial left the country this week after been told they were no longer welcome.
The women had been granted special visas after they blew the whistle on an immigration scam where agents promised people legal visas and jobs in New Zealand. The agents charged more than $10,000 per person but delivered little more than a holiday visa.
The information led to one woman being charged. Kewalin Chunpoo, 37, Peeraya Sanmao, 40 and Onnicha Junlhon, 35, were given protection as witnesses but, when the trial was aborted on a legal technicality, they were made to leave the country.
Before leaving on Wednesday the women said their lives would be in danger in Thailand because they were considered informants.
