KEY POINTS:
The parents of a missing Palmerston North girl are reassured by text messages sent to her uncle the day after she disappeared.
Chloe Trethewey-Kauri, 14, disappeared from her father's home seven days ago.
Neither of her parents have heard from her since, but on Thursday night she made contact with a Napier-based uncle via text message.
Her mother Lisa Wilson learnt of the text messages only yesterday.
It eased her fears that something bad had happened to her daughter, the Manawatu Standard reported.
Sergeant Peter Knight said police were investigating leads in Napier, checking out a two addresses there.
One of the addresses did not exist and the person sought was not at a second.
Police understood Chloe might be in the company of a 24-year-old man.
Her father, Jimmy Kauri, had been at her mother's home visiting her 11-year-old brother on Wednesday.
When he got home Chloe was gone.
No clothes were taken from Chloe's room and she did not have access to money.
Mrs Wilson said she sent her daughter numerous text messages and called but had got no reply.
"We've had a few problems. She went on a downward spiral and she left school but her father told me that she was starting to come right.
"All I'm wanting is for her to contact me to see if she is all right."
Mr Kauri said he was wondering where his daughter was and if she was okay.
"All I want to say is `baby come home'."
Chloe is described as a 155cm tall Caucasian with a thin build, brown eyes and dyed reddish hair. She was last seen wearing black jeans and a blue singlet top. She usually wears glasses but these were left at home.
