Dan King-Turner's decision to miss New Zealand's Davis Cup tennis tie paid some dividends yesterday when he advanced to the semifinals of an €85,000 ($170,950) challenger tournament at Pozoblanco in Spain.
King-Turner, ranked 249th in the world, beat Spaniard Marco Fornell-Mestres 3-6, 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (9-7) after saving a match point in each tiebreak. He faces third seed and 107th-ranked Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo from Spain, a former top-50 player, for a place in the final.
