Ten still in hospital after three-car smash

Ten people remain in hospital after a three-car crash in northwest Auckland yesterday.

Five children and five adults were rushed to Starship and Auckland City Hospital after a car collided with a minivan, pushing it into another car and sending it 20m down a bank.

The collision happened on State Highway 16 near Waimauku about 6.15pm.

An Auckland District Health Board spokeswoman said five children were taken to Starship and five adults to Auckland City Hospital.

One adult was airlifted by Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter in a critical condition.

The five children and four of the adults were stable today.

One adult was in a serious but stable condition, the spokeswoman said.
