Police are blaming too much alcohol for an outbreak of violence at a party in Upper Hutt.
Ten people have been arrested after throwing bottles at police, as they tried to shut the Mcparland Street party down last night. However, it has not yet been decided whether they will be charged.
Inspector Steve Darroch says police had visited the property several times throughout the night to try to calm the situation. He says the way people drink over the festive season causes chaos for police.
