Telecom's broadband internet service was back this afternoon after crashing three times this morning.
Technical problems with the network based at Porirua caused "outages" throughout the Wellington region from 7.30am to 7.45am and 8.30am to 8.53am.
An unrelated network problem in Christchurch broke connections to the area's customers between 7.30am and 11.35am, Telecom spokesman Nick Brown told NZPA.
The number of people, businesses and network servers hit by the outages was hard to judge, but probably ran to "a couple of thousand".
Mr Brown said there had been no more outages and the number of inquiries to Telecom's internet help desk had fallen to normal levels by midday, indicating the problems had been solved.
