Telecom and Vodafone have escaped regulation by offering to cut their cellphone termination rates over the next five years. The rates are what cellphone companies charge other carriers to terminate calls on their networks.
Economic Development Minister Trevor Mallard said Telecom wanted to cut its rate from 20c a minute to 12c and Vodafone from 20c to 14c.
