A Mt Wellington resident Juan Lopez said his new 2013 Nissan Sylphy, which he'd only bought on Friday, was completely written off.
The car, which he paid $17,000 for, was removed after the crash.
His flatmate, Jesus Lizarraga also had his $14,000 Mazda damaged in the incident.
"We woke up to a bang and looked out of the window, then saw smoke coming from the driver's car. We heard voices and screaming. There were two cars, one hit a tree outside and the other smashed into the wall outside the kitchen," said Lopez.
"It was a black Mazda Demio, we immediately thought it was stolen."
The pair, who work as engineers at Fisher and Paykel Healthcare said they had not been able to sleep and were contemplating moving.

"We spent the rest of last night trying to contact our family and friends on Facebook," said Lopez.
He said they only live 10 minutes from work and the location is convenient, but it might be time to relocate.
The exterior of the house was damaged but both residents were unharmed.
St John Ambulance said two of the vehicle's occupants were treated at the scene and taken to Middlemore Hospital.
One was in a serious condition, the other moderate.
Lopez said Police informed him charges would be laid.
