Five youths aged 14-15 have been apprehended by Wairarapa police for graffiti vandalism.
Acting Senior Sergeant Richard Day said yesterday the five have been referred to Youth Aid and police are wanting public help in an effort to stamp out tagging.
Mr Day said there has been a "spike" in graffiti in all towns, but especially in Queen Elizabeth Park and the Masterton shopping precinct.
The five were apprehended last week and police are making inquiries regarding other suspected graffiti offenders.
Mr Day said it was vigilance and information from the public that helped with the apprehension of the children and he wants people to remain on the lookout. "If you see taggers at work then ring 111 immediately or if you have information regarding taggers you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
