KEY POINTS:
Two teenagers are seriously ill in Waikato Hospital after their car and a refrigerator truck collided at a rural intersection near Cambridge yesterday morning.
The youths, aged about 17 and 18, were travelling along Racecourse Rd when the collision happened.
The truck ploughed through a farm fence, destroying about 25m of wooden railing, and ended up on its side next to a hedge.
Firefighters had to cut the car driver and his passenger free from the wreck. One was in a critical condition last night, and the other was seriously injured.
Sergeant Warren Shaw of Te Awamutu police said inquiries were being made into the cause of the crash, "and once that's established we will look into laying charges".
"The message here is to take another look at intersections," said Mr Shaw.
"It was not foggy, the morning was clear and dry."
