A pair of teenagers from Kaitangata have been charged with arson after police were called to a fire in a utility shed about 2.30am.
The shed, on an empty section on Water St, was well ablaze and the surrounding foliage was in danger of catching on fire, police said.
The shed was completely destroyed.
Detective Sergeant Kate Bartlett said police spoke to a group of five youths nearby and arrested two 16-year-olds on a charge of arson.
She said the teens also admitted to the arson of a car in Kaitangata on November 2.
Both teenagers are in custody and appear in the Balclutha Youth Court tomorrow morning.
