Wellington police are hunting a group of young Maori or Pacific Islanders who almost killed a man they attacked in suburban Newtown yesterday.
Detective Sergeant Warwick McKee said the 20-year-old suffered serious and significant injuries to his face and head.
The victim had been dropped in Newtown by friends when he was accosted about 2.50am by between five and seven teenagers drinking alcohol outside a dairy. He was in a serious but stable condition in Wellington Hospital.
