Police say a troublesome trio of 13-year-olds tried to burn down a primary school playground in Northland at the weekend.
Two fires were lit at Onerahi Primary School late last night, but were put out before too much damage could be done.
Senior Constable Paul Nicholas says the fires had been lit under the slide and had burned through the plywood base and a burnt out rubbish bin was also found up the road.
Two boys and a girl were picked up by police around 11.30.
