Arrests have been made after two attacks in Glen Innes during the weekend in which a man received life-threatening injuries and a security guard suffered broken ribs.
Police yesterday arrested three teenagers in connection with the first attack which occurred in Maybury Reserve and left a 37-year-old Glen Innes man fighting for his life in hospital. He was found at 8am on Sunday lying in the reserve with serious head injuries. A fourth was arrested today.
A 19-year-old, a 17-year-old and a 14-year-old, all from Glen Innes, have been charged with common assault in connection with the attack.
The 19-year-old was expected to appear with his co-accused in the Youth Court today.
The 17-year-old has also been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in relation to a second attack in Glen Innes.
That attack, on a security guard working in Glen Innes township, took place about 2.20am on Sunday.
The guard received four broken ribs, a burst ear drum and bruised vocal cords after allegedly being hit from behind and kicked in the chest.
The officer in charge of the inquiry, Detective Senior Sergeant Gerry Whitley, said there was still plenty of work to be done on the two investigations.
Doctors caring for the Maybury Reserve victim in Auckland City Hospital said yesterday that his condition had deteriorated.
