Teens accused of vicious assault named

Falcon Walsh, and Jacob Broderick, charged with assault against a man in the Havelock North Central business district, appeared in Hastings District Court.

One of the two teens accused of viciously assaulting a man in Havelock North last month has pleaded guilty and both can can now be named.

Falcon Kaine Walsh, 18, pleaded guiltily to injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in the Hastings District Court today.

Walsh's alleged co-attacker, Jacob Patrick Broderick, 17, pleaded not guilty to the same charge.

They stood in the dock together while their name suppression lapsed.

The charges relate to the alleged unprovoked bashing of a 32-year-old Hastings electrician along Te Aute Rd, in the heart of Havelock North during the early hours of August 3 this year.

The victim was found severely beaten, bloodied and slumped outside the clock tower public toilets by two females friends he had been celebrating a birthday with during the night.

Walsh and Broderick had been drinking at Turks Bar in Havelock North earlier in the night and immediately following the assault Walsh bragged about punching the victim in the head up to seven times to friends at the Havelock North McDonald's.

The victims family told Hawke's Bay Today outside court their brother's vision and speech had since returned, after he spent five days in Hawke's Bay Hospital following the assault.

"He hasn't gone back to work yet ... he has a lot of issues he's dealing with," said the victims sister.

The 32-year-old man has suffered from several ongoing issues including headaches, fatigue, balance and co-ordination issues and neck and upper chest pain.

Walsh was convicted and remanded on bail until October 22 when Judge Tony Adeane asked for Walsh to go through the restorative justice process.

Broderick, who has pleaded not guilty, was remanded on bail until a case review hearing on November 10.
