Teenagers microwaved bird to death, court told

Two Hamilton teenagers have been charged with cruelty to a pet bird after allegedly microwaving it to death during a burglary.

Ashley Daldy, 18, and Daniel Meredith, 19, were accused in Hamilton District Court yesterday of putting the bird in the microwave and turning it during a burglary, the Waikato Times reported.

Daldy also faces eight charges of burglary and two of wilful damage and Meredith also faces seven charges of burglary.

They were remanded without plea on bail until February 7.
