A teenager with his hoodie pulled up against the weather walked backwards into a train at Pukerua Bay, north of Wellington, today and lived to tell the story.
Police said the teenager was struck by a north-bound Tranz Metro train when he crossed the lines walking backwards.
He crossed against pedestrian warning lights and bells at Pukerua Bay train station at 8.30am.
He was taken to Wellington Hospital with a minor head injury, Senior Sergeant Alasdair MacMillan said.
