KEY POINTS:
A 16-year-old youth has been committed to stand trial for the murder of homeless man Lance Kingi in September last year.
The Hamilton teen is to appear in the High Court at Hamilton in May.
The youth, who cannot be named because of his age, was found to have a prima facie case to answer after a two-day hearing in the Hamilton District Court, the Waikato Times reported.
Mr Kingi, 27, was found in a courtyard at the back of the old Riverbank Mall building on Hamilton's Victoria St on September 22 last year.
The Crown alleged the teen killed Mr Kingi with a single blow to the head with a brick, which had come loose from a nearby set of steps.
The youth was remanded in CYF custody until his next court appearance.
