A teenage girl who spent more than a year sharing a house with an intellectually impaired man says there was a marked deterioration in his treatment by the adults caring for him.
The girl was giving evidence in the High Court at Rotorua where Leneith Moeke, 36, and Gene Karauria, 29, are on trial facing 25 charges of kidnapping, one of ill-treatment of a vulnerable adult and a raft of assault charges.
The court was told earlier in the trial the intellectually impaired man had the IQ of a child.
The girl gave evidence on Tuesday of the relationship between the adults "going bad", saying it began when Moeke started hitting the intellectually impaired man.
She outlined how he'd been forbidden from using the washing machine and shower, was ordered to sleep in a shed and refused a place at the dining table, instead living on a diet of bread and noodles, eaten outside.
