A student was today jailed for life with a minimum non-parole period of 17 years for murdering Auckland man Robert Hunt.
Dickie Faisauvale, 19, was convicted in July of killing Mr Hunt, who was found stabbed to death at his Ellerslie home in July last year.
In court today Justice Marion Frater told Faisauvale that he had attacked a defenceless man.
During his trial Faisauvale claimed Mr Hunt, a homosexual, sexually attacked him after inviting him home for a meal.
He said he feared he was going to be raped and stabbed Mr Hunt 42 times.
But Crown prosecutor Philip Hamlin said Faisauvale's motive was greed. He stole money and a car from Mr Hunt.
