KEY POINTS:
A 16 year-old arrested after the fatal stabbing of Manaola Kaumeafaiva outside Avondale College is now to be charged with murder, police said today.
Avondale College and neighbouring Avondale Intermediate were closed for a day after the killing of 14-year-old Mana on October 22.
The murder charge will be laid when the 16-year-old appears in the Auckland Youth Court tomorrow. The boy, from Mt Wellington, had previously been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Police said he will also be charged with two further counts of assault with a weapon relating to other incidents outside the school on the night.
In all, the teenager will face five charges that relate to five victims.
The accused was remanded into Child Youth and Family custody on October 26.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Cramer said at the time that the dead boy did not know his attacker.
Mana was described as a popular student at the college and a nice young man. He was the middle of three boys and two girls.
The killing happened following a hip-hop event at the college.
