A 19-year-old man is dead after the car he was in hit a lamp post in the Horowhenua tonight.
The accident happened on State Highway 57, south of Shannon, about 6pm, Inspector Michael Coleman of central police communications said.
The dead man was a passenger in the vehicle.
The 21-year-old male driver suffered minor injuries, Mr Coleman said.
The two men were flatmates going to their home in Palmerston North.
