An 18-year-old man is in a critical condition after his car flipped on State Highway 5, north of Levin, today.
Constable Allan Ward of Levin police said the man was driving south at 12.50am when his car veered left and hit a bank.
"He lost control of his vehicle then flipped. It appears the driver was not wearing a seat belt and he was thrown from the car," he said.
He was taken to Palmerston North Hospital by ambulance with head and neck injuries.
His condition deteriorated while on route to hospital, Mr Ward said.
