A teenager has been charged with stabbing a 40-year-old woman up to eight times in a domestic incident at a unit in Tauranga's Park St.
The woman was in a serious but stable condition in Tauranga Hospital this morning.
Tauranga police Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner said the alarm was raised last night by neighbours.
When the emergency services arrived they found the victim with multiple stab wounds from a knife in her chest and upper body.
A 19-year-old has been charged with assault and will appear in Tauranga District Court today. More serious charges were likely to follow, Mr Turner said.
