KEY POINTS:
An "out of control" Dunedin teenager will appear in court today facing a raft of charges after tackling a police officer who stopped him driving on the southern motorway.
The 16-year-old suspended driver with five teenage passengers in the car was stopped overnight for random breath testing and found to be twice over the adult breath alcohol limit, said Sergeant Ed Baker, of Dunedin police.
"He got violent and assaulted one of the officers involved and then he attempted to run away. He was just out of control."
The teenager will appear in Youth Court today facing a variety of charges.
