KEY POINTS:
A 14-year-old girl travelling in a campervan died this morning after the vehicle collided with an oncoming car in eastern Bay of Plenty.
Police said the crash happened on State Highway 30, at Awakeri, 17km southwest of Whakatane, about 10.40am.
"The driver of the campervan has been distracted while driving and as a result the vehicle crossed the centre line into the path of an oncoming vehicle," said Sergeant Ray Wylie.
The girl died at the scene, while the drivers of both vehicles suffered minor injuries.
A Whakatane police serious crash team is investigating.
