Teenage girl charged after another dies

A 16-year-old girl is due to appear in court today on a murder charge after another 16-year-old died from injuries thought to have been inflicted with a broken bottle.


Police have released few details of the incident in Turangi on Saturday night but but it is believed the two girls knew each other and the fight followed a 21st birthday party in the town.


The 16-year-old victim was pronounced dead soon after she arrived at Taupo Hospital.


The other girl was originally charged with assaulted but this was later upgraded to murder.


She will appear in Taupo District Court this morning.
