KEY POINTS:
A teenage driver who tried to outrun police at speeds up to 160km after failing to stop in Blenheim early this morning lost control and crashed after an 11km pursuit.
Sergeant Dan Mattison, of Blenheim police, said the driver failed to stop for police in Nelson St just after midnight and headed to Renwick, 13km west of Blenheim, on State Highway 6.
His vehicle left the road on a corner in Renwick and he received minor injuries.
After being taken to Wairau Hospital, the 19-year-old was processed for drink-driving and charged with failing to stop for police, reckless driving and refusing a doctor's request to provide a blood sample.
He was held in custody to appear in Blenheim District Court today.
