KEY POINTS:
Friends of missing Auckland teen Kellie Zhang are being urged to contact police or their school counsellor if they have any information about her whereabouts.
The 14-year-old Avondale College student has not been seen since August 20 when she left home in her school uniform following a fight with her mother and stepfather the night before.
Kellie left a note saying she was leaving but has not made contact with her family since that morning. She has not used her bankcards or turned up for school.
Constable Darrel Watt said his first concern was verifying the teen was safe. Police have spoken with her friends but they have all denied knowing her whereabouts.
Mr Watt said police believe she may be hiding with people she knows, probably in the Central West area where she has grown up, and he is appealing to them to come forward.
"Even if they don't tell us where she is, we really want to know that she is safe."
Mr Watt said the college school counsellor was happy to act as a go-between for students who did not want to go directly to police.
Kellie, whose Chinese name is Yifei, is 1.66m tall and of thin build. She speaks both English and Mandarin.
Mr Watt can be contacted on (09) 820 5772.
