A Waikato teen is in a stable condition after falling off a bolting horse.
About 12.40pm yesterday, the Auckland Rescue Helicopter was called to Onewhero and the 16-year-old girl was flown to Auckland City Hospital in a critical condition.
Intensive care flight paramedic Bruce Kerr said she had "fallen quite heavily" off the horse.
"Five minutes after arrival, our primary machine flew overhead and landed to allow our... doctor to assess the patient. He was able to ascertain from an ultrasound that she required a blood transfusion and the patient was transfused while enroute to Auckland City Hospital," Mr Kerr said.
