A teenager allegedly led police on a 40 minute pursuit through central Otago last night.
The 17-year-old driver was arrested after the Subaru he was driving collided with a pursuing police vehicle, with an officer suffering a minor injury to their hand from the airbag activating in their patrol car.
The chase started after the vehicle was spotted allegedly travelling at high speed near the Kawarau Gorge at 7.41pm.
The vehicle, which had two occupants, continued on State Highway 6 into the gorge towards Queenstown before turning around and heading back towards Cromwell.
Police said the 17-year-old driver would be charged with reckless driving and failing to stop.
