A teenage boy is in a serious condition in hospital after a hit and run incident in Mangere, south Auckland last night.
Detective Richard O'Connor of the Manukau Crime Squad said 16-year-old Lincoln Hapeta was hit at about 11pm while walking along Raglan St, towards Buckland Rd, with his cousin.
He is in a serious condition in Middlemore Hospital.
"He's got serious liver damage," Mr O'Connor said.
It was not yet established whether the boy was on the road or footpath when he was hit, he said.
It was also not known how fast the vehicle was going, but early indications were that it was travelling at around the speed limit.
Police are looking for a white or light coloured van, described as having yellow fog lights as well as normal headlights, and possibly with bull bars.
Mr O'Connor said it was believed there would be damage to the left front of the vehicle resulting from the crash.
Police had talked to three or four witnesses but Mr O'Connor asked others with information to contact him on (09) 2611327.
