KEY POINTS:
Police are hunting two men after they raped a teenage woman inside public toilets in Whangarei, in the early hours of this morning.
Detective Sergeant Rob Huys said the 18-year-old was alone inside the public toilets at Tarewa Park, Otaika, Whangarei, when she was confronted by two males about 2.30am today.
The men forced themselves upon the teenager and they both raped her, he said.
The men left in a car - described as a silver Mitsubishi Gallant four door sedan - heading in the direction of the city centre.
The teenager managed to raise the alarm by alerting a passing car and then called police.
The men are both believed to be Maori and aged in their late teens or early twenties.
Mr Huys said the teenager was obviously distressed but fortunately suffered no serious physical injuries and was coping well under the circumstances.
Police are appealing for any witnesses.
