KEY POINTS:
A Matamata teenager facing a rape charge was today sentenced to three months in Child, Youth and Family custody for an aggravated robbery in October.
The 16-year-old, who cannot be named due to his age, was on bail pending today's sentencing hearing when he allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl on Saturday, December 8.
He was released on bail again on Wednesday, despite strong objections from police.
In the Morrinsville Youth Court today, Judge Denise Clark revoked the boy's bail after he was sentenced, meaning he will remain in custody after the three months' sentence is completed, if the rape charge is still before the courts.
Last week's court ruling to bail the teenager, following the rape allegation, was labelled as "appalling" by Ron Mark, NZ First's spokesman for law and order.
Police had been searching for the teenager, who had broken his original bail conditions, when the alleged rape occurred.
