A teenager faces a $1092 reparation bill for a fire service call-out after setting off a fire alarm at a shop in the Christchurch suburb of Northwood.
Brandon Nelson Jones, 17, appeared in Christchurch District Court today, where he was also sentenced on a shoplifting charge.
Jones, drunk at the time he set off the alarm, said he entered the open back door of the shop and called out to the owners but no-one responded.
He decided to let them know the door was open by breaking the glass of the fire alarm and setting it off.
The fire service arrived and Jones was charged with knowingly giving a false fire alarm.
Judge Stephen Erber ordered reparation of $1092 to be paid to the Fire Service.
