An armed teenager is on the run tonight after attempting to hold up a Hastings dairy.
The teen presented a firearm at the dairy in Karamu Road shortly after 12.30pm, Hastings police Senior Sergeant Stuart Fleming said.
He did not take anything and fled on foot before police arrived, he said.
The Hawke's Bay armed offenders squad cordoned off several streets around the dairy and scoured the area for four hours.
The search would resume tomorrow morning, Mr Fleming said.
He described the offender as European, in his mid to late teens and wearing a grey hoodie and light-coloured jeans.
Mr Fleming said the teen was considered dangerous and anyone with anyone information about his whereabouts should contact Hastings police.
