A 16-year-old moped rider died last night after his bike collided with a car in Palmerston North.
Police central communications shift Inspector Chris Tate said the crash occurred at the intersection of Rangitikei and Featherston Sts just after 10pm.
"The 16-year-old male rider of the motorcycle was killed."
The policeserious crash unit were investigating and the road has since been cleared.
A Palmerston North police constable later clarified the 16-year-old was riding a moped, not a motorcycle as was reported earlier.
No further details of the crash could be released until the police serious crash unit investigation had been completed and the young man's family had been notified, she said.
